Webcam

From version 2.1.0, customers can take photos directly via their device's webcam and attach them as an upload to their order — without saving a file locally first.

Requirements

• The browser must be granted camera access (the customer will be prompted automatically)
• The plugin must be enabled for the product (see Products)
• HTTPS is required — browsers only allow camera access on secure connections

How it works

The Uppy Dashboard automatically shows a "Webcam" tab if the browser supports camera access. The customer can:

1. Click on the Webcam tab
2. Take a photo
3. Upload the photo directly

The captured photo is treated like any other file — the configured restrictions (allowed file types, file size, min/max) apply.

Note: If only specific file types are allowed (e.g. PDF only), the Webcam tab should not be used in practice, as photos are captured as JPEG/PNG. In this case the tab is visible but the upload will be blocked by the allowed file type restriction.
