Fix from 404 – Redirect & 404 Manager
Fix from 404
The fastest way to a new redirect isn't the "Create redirect" form — it's directly through the 404 log.
The one-click path
- Open Content → Redirect & 404 → 404 Log
- Pick an entry with a high hit count
- Click Create redirect
- The source path is already pre-filled — exactly matching the logged path
- Enter only the target URL and pick the type (301 or 302)
- Save
This eliminates manually typing the source path entirely, and typos — the most common cause of redirects that don't fire (see Troubleshooting) — are practically ruled out with this approach.
After creating the redirect, the original 404 entry remains in the log for now. Since the path is now redirected, it no longer produces new 404 hits. You can delete the entry from the log manually afterwards if you want to tidy up.
Recommended workflow: go through the log weekly
For most shops, a fixed weekly slot is enough:
- Open the 404 log and go through it top to bottom, sorted by frequency
- For each relevant entry, create a redirect directly with Fix from 404
- Ignore or delete obvious bot or random paths
- After a few weeks, the log becomes noticeably quieter, since the most frequent 404 sources are already covered
This workflow is especially useful in the first weeks after a migration or relaunch, when many old URLs are still linked or indexed by search engines — see also Migration Scenarios.
